It's Metafilter's 20th anniversary! To celebrate, scan some cats or help fund Mefi! Hey guys just curious if a woman who is 31 years old was into a guy who is 26 me , would the age gap be too large for it to be considered normal. It's a five year gap, and to me that just seems too much for what is "normal" It would be okay if the man was 26 and she was 21 but the other way around feels too milfy, or cougarish.

In college I studied Computer Science and forgot how to talk to women. As the only straight woman within reach, I soon became the de facto dating consultant for my male friends, despite my waning expertise. But what I soon realized was that sometimes the best way to date is to go off script. We had more important things to worry about, like the alarming decay rate of our attractiveness. If we graduated without a future husband in tow, the men in our class would forgo us for younger, dumber women.
You know those girls who refuse to date anyone younger than they are, much less anyone their own age? I am one of those people. Throughout my entire love life -- or whatever you want to call what has been 23 years of going through men, some for longer than others -- I have never so much as lusted after any guy who is younger than I am. And I obviously have the matching theory as to why to go along with it naturally, it involves being the younger sister. For me, and many other women like me , it all begins with a number.
